What Year 2 covers

Year 2 builds on Year 1. Pupils read with increasing fluency and comprehension, write coherent short paragraphs, learn to tell the time, work with money (pence and pounds), explore fractions of shapes and quantities, and consolidate addition/subtraction to 100.

End-of-KS1 assessments

End-of-KS1 tests and teacher assessment are optional in England. Schools can use them to support their understanding of each pupil’s progress. The phonics screening check remains statutory: eligible Year 2 pupils take it if they have not taken it before or did not meet the expected standard in Year 1.
